#28 Pro Finish 2000!

This is the #28 2000 Shootout/Daytona 500 car I am building for my friend GT! Here are some pictures of the driver figure and the chassis/rollcage assemblies.

Completed chassis! Here is the completed chassis/cage assembly. Here (The first picture) is where you can see one of the omissions of this kit, no front shocks and no ignition wires on the engine but it does have the updated exhaust, new oil pan and air cleaner.

Rear view-Note the omission of fuel cell and rear bars of cage but also note fire bottle molded onto the cage (Much easier to paint)!

Underside view-Here you can see the exhaust repositioned to match the body. I removed the 2 locating pins from the top side and reshaped it so that it would be level at the headers and level at the body (The nest shot will show this).

I did this by hand simply bending downward at the headers and upward about half way between the headers and the outer limit of the exhaust (Not accurate but it sure looks better than having 1/2 to 2/3 of the exhaust hidden behind the bottom edge of the body!

I like the decals in this kit! They went well on the driver figure with setting solution (Yes it worked on these!) I did have to do a little cutting though. I seperated the sleeve "V" from the patches on each arm and also cut the v into 2 pieces and positioned them overlapping them at the bottom to make them fit right (Paint covered the crisscrossed part of the "V") I also cut the triangles off of the sides of the chest/torso decal, again just to make them go on easier! As you can see they went on well! The chassis wasn't bad either and I have assembled the cage as a full seperate unit! I put a little shim cut from plastic tubing on each end of the metal axle shaft (Approx. 1/16" thick) to push the rear wheels out just a bit. The front wheels and wheelwells are very well matched and the nose rides nicely but the rear wheelwells are too big! If they had just proportioned (sp?) the opening to the tire like they did for the front it would have been perfect! All in all a nice kit though for a pre finished car. I will give much more detail on how I painted the interior of the body and other things in my writeup on the Modeling Center when this one is ready!

Another shot head on this time, One more note about additions/changes from the regular glue kit chassis-the addition of a more accurate set of cross bars at the front of the chassis (Ahead of the engine).

Driver side view-Note spacer between chassis and exhaust... I added this so that I could match it with the body and make it flush with the side of the body as well when I lowered the rear of the body by cutting off a little over 1/16" of the screw posts at the rear of the body. I also trimmed the top of the rear window panel to allow the body to have ample clearance as well.

Here is a pic of the interior of the body. As you can see I cut out the part of the window assembly between the windshield and the rear glass, this gave me more clearance for lowering the body on the chassis. I then glued these pieces back in place to insure that after I painted the interior I didn't pull the windows back out with the tape. I masked each window seperately and trimmed very close to the prepainted areas of black so that it wouldn't look so "unrealistic" but I made one mistake!!! I didn't make sure the tape on the side glass was sealed all the way around the edges and the paint sprayed in at the corners!!! I then tried to remove the paint with thinner ...another big booboo... which worked but clouded the windows which I then applied toothpaste to which almost removed it all but not around the edges! I then decided to gamble and brush painted the whole windows with model master clear topcoat which made the edges look uncloudy like the rest but gives the windows a bit of a wavy appearance that I can live with (I really have no choice now) :~) Well, decals are next and then pics and write up will be sent to Bob for addition to the Modeling Center!!!
